Air Fryer Basket vs Air Fryer Oven
The two shapes of the same idea. A basket air fryer is a small, deep drawer that crisps one thing brilliantly; an air fryer oven is a countertop oven with a fan that does more, less intensely. Which one you want depends on how many people you feed and how much counter you have.

The answer, in one paragraph
Buy a basket air fryer if you cook for one or two, want the crispest possible result on a single food, and value a small footprint and easy cleanup. Buy an air fryer oven if you cook for a family, want to air fry, toast, bake and roast in one box, and have the counter space. The basket is more intense on less food; the oven is more versatile on more. Both work by the same mechanism — a fan moving hot air — explained here — so the choice is shape, not principle.
Where the basket wins
Intensity, footprint and cleanup. A basket air fryer is a small, deep, enclosed drawer, so the hot air circulates tightly around the food and the crisping is genuinely better on a single batch — fries, wings, a couple of chicken thighs. It takes up little counter, heats fast because the cavity is tiny, and the basket lifts out to wash. If air frying is 90% of why you are buying, and you rarely cook for more than two, the basket does that one job better than an oven does.
Where the oven wins
Capacity and versatility. An air fryer oven has a larger, flatter interior, so it spreads food in a single layer and takes a whole meal — a tray of vegetables under a tray of chicken on two levels, in the case of a two-level oven like the Ninja DT201. Crucially it also replaces your toaster oven: it toasts, bakes and broils as well as air fries, so it is one appliance instead of two. A budget oven like the BLACK+DECKER Crisp 'N Bake gives you all of that for basket money. The trade is that a large flat cavity crisps a little less aggressively than a tight basket, and it takes more counter.
The honest trade, side by side
A basket is better at crisping one thing and worse at everything else; an oven is a bit less crisp but does far more and consolidates two appliances into one. Cleanup favours the basket (one part, in the sink) over the oven (racks and a tray). Counter space favours the basket. Feeding a family favours the oven — a basket that does one batch at a time turns dinner for four into three rounds. And if you already own a toaster oven, an air fryer oven replaces it, where a basket sits beside it.
How to choose
Count the people and the appliances. One or two people who mostly want crisp snacks: a basket. A family, or anyone who wants to retire a separate toaster oven, or who bakes and roasts as well as air fries: an oven. If the oven is the answer, our air fryer oven ranking covers every size and price, and the sizing guide matches the interior to your household. We rank ovens rather than baskets because the oven is the more versatile buy for most kitchens — but for a single crisp-snack cook, the basket is the honest recommendation, and we will not pretend otherwise to sell the bigger box.

1,800 W
Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry Oven (DT201)
The value pick, and it is not close. Same 1,800 W as ovens costing two and a half times more, two full cooking levels, and a published capacity claim — two 12-inch pizzas — that is specific enough to be checkable rather than a vibe.

Hamilton Beach Easy View XL Toaster Oven with Sure-Crisp Air Fry, 6 Slice
Around seventy dollars for a six-slice oven with a real convection fan. At this price the honest framing is that you are buying a toaster oven that also blows air, and that is fine — that is what air frying is.
