What Breville actually publishes

More than anyone else in the category, which is the whole reason this oven leads our rankings. The instruction book carries a rating plate figure of 1,800 watts; the product page states a one-cubic-foot interior, exterior dimensions of 21.4 by 17.3 by 12.7 inches, and thirteen functions. That combination — power, volume and layout in one checkable place — is unique here, and on a site that scores documentation as one of five metrics, it is worth real points.

The mechanical substance behind the price is Element IQ: six heating elements the oven drives independently rather than switching in banks, moving heat to where a given function needs it. That is a genuine difference from a two-element budget oven, not a marketing line — though whether you need it depends entirely on whether you bake and roast with any ambition.

What it costs to run

The same as every other 1,800-watt oven on the site, because that is the ceiling of a 15-amp kitchen circuit and the Breville sits right at it. Spending four times the category floor buys you control over the heat, not less of it — the running cost is identical to a $108 Cuisinart. The honest catch

Two of them. First, footprint: at 21.4 inches wide and 17.3 deep, this is one of the largest ovens in the category, and it will not slide under many upper cabinets or sit comfortably on a shallow counter. Measure before you buy, including the depth to the backsplash. Second, value: if you mostly toast and reheat, none of what makes this oven special is recovered on those jobs, and the Ninja DT201 gives you the same power and two cooking levels for a fraction of the price.

What it gets right

  • Breville publishes the rated wattage, the interior volume, the exterior dimensions and the element count — almost nobody else in this category publishes all four
  • 1 cubic foot of interior is genuinely a small oven, not a large toaster: a 14-inch pizza or a 9x13 pan fits without diagonal gymnastics
  • Element IQ drives the six elements independently rather than switching them in banks, which is the actual mechanical difference behind the price
