The 'Best' in our titles is a claim, and this is where we back it. Every score on the site is a judgment compiled from published documents — not a test result — and here is exactly how it is made.

The one thing to understand first
We have not cooked in these ovens. There is no test kitchen behind this site, no unit on a bench, no chicken we roasted. Every score is a judgment built from what the manufacturer publishes and what the physics guarantees — which means you can check all of it. That is the trade we are offering: not “trust our tasting”, but “here are the numbers and the sources, redo the ranking yourself”.
The five metrics
Every oven is scored 0–10 on five things, and the overall score is their mean.

| Power | Published wattage, and whether it is high enough to cook briskly. Nearly all full-size ovens sit at the 1,800 W circuit ceiling; the budget tier draws less. |
| Usable space | Interior volume and, where published, interior height — the dimension that actually decides whether bread finishes and a sheet pan fits. |
| Footprint | How much counter it takes, including depth. A large cavity in a small kitchen is a liability, and depth is the dimension buyers forget. |
| Documentation | Whether the manufacturer publishes a wattage, a temperature range, interior dimensions and a warranty term at all. This is unusual to score, and it is the most defensible thing here. |
| Value | What the price buys against the field — interior and capability per dollar, not just the number. |
Why Documentation is a metric
Because a brand that will not tell you what its oven draws has told you something, and because on a site whose entire premise is checkable numbers, an oven you cannot check should not outrank one you can. A three-hundred-dollar appliance whose manufacturer publishes no wattage loses points to a sixty-five-dollar one that publishes everything — and the by-model tableshows how short the list of well-documented ovens actually is. This metric is the one most directly aligned with the reader's interest, and it is the one no competitor scores.
How we compute running cost
Power in watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × your rate = dollars. We use 18.83¢ per kWh — the US average residential rate published by the EIA — and a usage assumption of 30 minutes a day, 365 days a year, both stated on the page so you can substitute your own. Every figure is computed at the full rated wattage, which makes it an upper bound: real ovens cycle their elements off once the cavity is hot, so actual consumption is lower. We do not apply a duty-cycle correction because no manufacturer publishes one, and an invented factor would be exactly the unsourceable number this site exists to avoid. The full method is here.
What disqualifies an oven
An oven is dropped from a roundup, not merely ranked low, if:
- We cannot resolve a live Amazon listing for it, because then we cannot show a real price and would have to remember one — which we will not do.
- The manufacturer publishes so little that the page would be padding. Several intended review pages were dropped during this build for exactly this reason; a thin page about an undocumented oven is worse than no page.
- A match turns out to be an accessory, not the oven.Three first-pass product matches during this build were a cutting board, a basket and an accessory set — each legitimately carrying the oven's model number — and all three were rejected.
What we will never do
- Invent a wattage, price, dimension or rating.
- Claim we cooked in, tested, or owned an oven we did not.
- Publish a review score in structured data — the on-page score is editorial, not a test rating, and it never enters the JSON-LD.
- Let the commission decide a ranking. It funds the site; it does not order the list.
If you find a figure on the site that is wrong, that is a bug and we want it. Tell us and we will correct it and note the change.
