Air Fryer Toaster Ovens With the Least Coating

The coating question is real and mostly misunderstood. Here is what is actually in the cavity of an oven-style air fryer, and the picks that keep it to a minimum.

#ad · Prices pulled live from the Amazon Product API, last checked Jul 20, 2026. Where we have no verified live price we show none — we would rather leave a gap than print a number that has gone stale. The wattage column is what the manufacturer publishes; “not published” means exactly that, and we have not estimated one. Scores are ours, compiled from published specifications, and are not test results.

Read this before you shop on coatings

The good news for anyone worried about non-stick is structural: an oven-style air fryer is mostly a stainless cavity with a wire rack and a metal or mesh basket. Unlike a basket-style air fryer, where the food sits in a coated drawer, most of the food in an oven sits on a steel rack. The coating question here is smaller than the search volume around it suggests.

Where coating does appear, it is usually PTFE on the crumb tray or the air-fry basket, and the relevant fact is temperature: PTFE is stable at normal cooking temperatures and only begins to degrade well above them. The full explanation — what the coatings are, what temperature they degrade at, and what the published guidance says is the page to read before spending on this axis. This roundup simply picks the ovens whose interiors and racks are bare steel, so the coated parts are minimal and easy to swap for a steel replacement.

A note on honesty: we cannot certify what is in any oven beyond what the manufacturer publishes and what is visible in the cavity. Where a brand does not document its coating, we say so rather than assuring you it is fine.

Breville Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro (BOV900BSS)

The one to buy if you will keep it a decade

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro (BOV900BSS)

Wattage published in the manualWidest footprint here
8.5/10

The most completely documented oven in the category, and the only one at any price whose manufacturer publishes a rated wattage, an interior volume and a full element layout in the same place. You pay roughly four times the category floor for that, and about a third of the premium is the documentation itself.

What it gets right

  • Breville publishes the rated wattage, the interior volume, the exterior dimensions and the element count — almost nobody else in this category publishes all four
  • 1 cubic foot of interior is genuinely a small oven, not a large toaster: a 14-inch pizza or a 9x13 pan fits without diagonal gymnastics
  • Element IQ drives the six elements independently rather than switching them in banks, which is the actual mechanical difference behind the price

What it doesn't

  • 21.4 inches wide is wider than most upper-cabinet clearances allow you to slide it under
  • At the current price it costs more than several full-size wall ovens' worth of countertop convection you could assemble from cheaper parts
  • Thirteen functions is nine more than most households use; the presets are the same elements at different set points

What it costs to run

About 33.9¢ an hour at full draw, or $61.86 a year at 30 minutes a day, 365 days a year and 18.83¢ per kWh.

1,800 W ÷ 1000 × 182.5 h × 18.83¢ = $61.86

1800 W is the rating plate figure in Breville's own instruction book, not a marketing headline. This is an upper bound: the elements cycle off once the cavity is at temperature, and no manufacturer publishes a duty cycle, so we compute at full rated draw rather than invent a correction factor. The full method is published.

Skip this if…

your counter is under 24 inches deep with the backsplash, or you are buying an oven mainly to make toast and reheat pizza — nothing about this machine's price is recovered on those two jobs.

The middle of the market, done plainly

Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven, 8-in-1 (TOA-70)

No manufacturer spec page found
7.3/10

A competent 1,800 W convection oven with a dial-and-display interface and no particular ambition, at a price that sits exactly between the budget tier and the Brevilles. Nothing here is remarkable, which for a countertop oven is closer to a compliment than it sounds.

What it gets right

  • 1,800 W puts it on level terms with ovens costing twice as much for anything time-based
  • Physical controls rather than a capacitive panel, which is the part of a countertop oven most likely to fail first
  • Sits in the price band where the marginal dollar still buys interior room rather than presets

What it doesn't

  • Cuisinart publishes no spec page for this model — the wattage comes from listing copy, not a manual
  • No published interior volume or temperature range
  • Eight functions, several of which are the same heat profile relabeled

What it costs to run

About 33.9¢ an hour at full draw, or $61.86 a year at 30 minutes a day, 365 days a year and 18.83¢ per kWh.

1,800 W ÷ 1000 × 182.5 h × 18.83¢ = $61.86

1800 W as stated in Cuisinart's own listing copy. Cuisinart does not publish a spec sheet for this model on its own site, so this figure is brand-supplied rather than manual-verified. This is an upper bound: the elements cycle off once the cavity is at temperature, and no manufacturer publishes a duty cycle, so we compute at full rated draw rather than invent a correction factor. The full method is published.

you want to be able to check the specification against a manufacturer document before buying — for this model there is not one, and that is a reasonable thing to refuse.

Instant Brands Instant Pot Omni Plus 19QT/18L Toaster Oven Air Fryer, 10-in-1

Rotisserie without a separate machine

Instant Pot Omni Plus 19QT/18L Toaster Oven Air Fryer, 10-in-1

6.9/10

One of the few ovens here that publishes its interior in liters, which makes it the easiest in the category to compare on paper. The rotisserie is a genuine mechanical addition rather than a relabeled fan setting.

7
Value

What it gets right

  • 18 liters stated plainly, so you can compare it to a Breville's cubic foot without converting a marketing claim
  • A published temperature range, which is rarer than it should be and matters if you proof dough
  • The rotisserie spit is real hardware, not a preset

What it doesn't

  • Instant Brands publishes no wattage on the product page, so this oven gets no running-cost figure from us
  • 450°F is a low ceiling — several ovens here reach 500°F, which matters for pizza and for a hard finish on roast vegetables
  • Rotisserie is the kind of feature that gets used twice

What it costs to run

Instant Brands publishes no wattage for this oven in any document we could find, so we do not show a running-cost figure for it. We are not going to estimate one from a similar model. Here is the method we would have used.

Skip this if…

you bake pizza at high heat. The published ceiling is 450°F, and that is fifty degrees short of where a thin crust actually wants to be.

How we picked

Ovens we claim to have cooked in: 0

Everyone in this category tells you they roasted forty chickens. We have roasted none, and we say so. Here is what we do instead: read the manufacturer's manual and spec sheet, record the published wattage, interior volume, temperature range and warranty term, work out what the oven costs to run for an hour and for a year, show the arithmetic so you can redo it with your own electricity rate, and cite all of it. Where a brand publishes no wattage, we print no running cost rather than borrowing a number from a similar model. Prices come live from Amazon's API and disappear rather than go stale.

The scores above are judgments from that documented research — not test results. One of the five metrics is Documentation: whether the manufacturer will tell you what its oven draws at all. The full rubric, including what disqualifies an oven, is published in full.
