How to Clean an Air Fryer Toaster Oven
Crisping food throws grease onto every surface, and baked-on grease is what makes an oven smoke and smell. Here is the routine that keeps one working -- the daily wipe, the weekly deep clean, and the two things never to do.

The answer, in one paragraph
Wipe the interior and the crumb tray after anything greasy while the oven is warm (not hot); once a week, pull the racks, basket and tray and wash them in warm soapy water; and never use an abrasive scourer or oven-cleaner spray on the non-stick surfaces or the heating elements. That is the whole routine. Grease left to bake on is what makes an air fryer oven smoke, smell and eventually taste of everything you have ever cooked in it, so the daily thirty seconds is the part that matters most.
The daily wipe
Unplug the oven and let it cool until it is warm rather than hot — warm grease wipes away, cold grease has set, and hot surfaces burn you. Take out the crumb tray and empty it; crumbs left under the elements are the usual source of a burning smell and, occasionally, a small fire. Wipe the interior walls and floor with a damp cloth and a little dish soap. This takes under a minute after a greasy cook and removes most of a weekly deep clean before it can accumulate.
The weekly deep clean
Remove everything that comes out — racks, the air-fry basket, the drip and crumb trays. Most manufacturers make these parts dishwasher-safe, but check the manual for your model rather than assuming: some coated baskets are hand-wash only, and repeated dishwasher cycles shorten a coating's life. For stuck-on residue, soak in warm soapy water for fifteen minutes rather than scrubbing hard. Wipe the interior more thoroughly than the daily pass, including the glass door inside and out, and dry everything before it goes back so moisture does not sit against the elements.
The two mistakes that cause damage
Abrasives on coated surfaces. Steel wool, a hard scourer or a gritty cleanser strips the non-stick coating off a basket or tray, after which food sticks and the surface degrades faster. Use a soft sponge or a nylon brush. Spraying the heating elements or the controls.Never point oven cleaner or any spray at the exposed elements or a capacitive control panel — the elements do not need it and the panel can fail if liquid gets behind it. Clean elements only with a barely damp cloth once cool, and let the oven run empty for a few minutes afterward to burn off any residue.
Why the cleanable design matters when you buy
Cleaning difficulty is a real buying criterion, not an afterthought. Ovens with a slide-out crumb tray, removable racks and mostly bare-steel interiors — like the Breville Pro— are far easier to keep clean than a fixed cavity with a large coated basket. If low-maintenance matters to you, and it should, factor it in alongside the specs; the bare-steel-interior ovens are listed here and they are the easiest to live with as well as the lowest-coating.

1,800 W
Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro (BOV900BSS)
The most completely documented oven in the category, and the only one at any price whose manufacturer publishes a rated wattage, an interior volume and a full element layout in the same place. You pay roughly four times the category floor for that, and about a third of the premium is the documentation itself.

Instant Pot Omni Plus 19QT/18L Toaster Oven Air Fryer, 10-in-1
One of the few ovens here that publishes its interior in liters, which makes it the easiest in the category to compare on paper. The rotisserie is a genuine mechanical addition rather than a relabeled fan setting.
